The impulse control log was designed by S.A.F.E. ALTERNATIVES® as an effective tool for the identification, understanding and management of self-destructive impulses, helping self-injurers and their therapists to identify patterns of self-injury. The goal of this log is to put a window of opportunity (e.g. time to think) between an impulse and an action. It can help the user challenge irrational thoughts and identify feelings as well as allow for the healthy expression of that feeling as opposed to choosing self-destructive behavior. An excellent resource for schools and private practitioners. The Impulse control log, Productive Risk log, Confrontation log, Negative Thinking log, Dilemma log, Discussion Issues log, and so much more be be found in the S.A.F.E. Alternatives App. Available in Itunes and Google Play.

While I like all the categories it doesn't really leave enough space to accurately fill it out to obtain useful information for studying my own behavior. I'm an undergraduate physics student (age 27) so I am trying to view what I record in my logs as "data" so I can learn from it. I downloaded it and then turned it into a form, rather than the current grid form so I have more space to write. I do think it will be useful. If I could find a way to afford the SAFE ALTERNATIVES program I would be happy to spend my summer becoming a better me.

I just think if you need anything to help you figure out what your triggers are this is a great thing to have.

This has been very helpful in allowing my clients to think through their urges & get to the root of the cause. I also like how it points to consequences & causes them to think about those as well.

I used this product via copying it for 15 college students for use as a guest lecturer on s.i.
It is one of the most helpful tools to share with others, especially in a teaching environment because of the ability to adapt the form to other addictions and problems as well.
